The Golden Age

Athens was the main leader in the Persian wars. They were in 490 B.C. and 480-479 B.C. Afterwards Athens became the leader of the Delian League. The League was formed to constantly wage war against Persia.The league, after a short time afterward, developed into the Athenian empire.

From 477 to 431 B.C. was Athens "Golden Age." This period was the most intellectually stimulating time of Athens. The arts of Athens were showing brightly. Many temples and statues were built during this period. During this period Athens became known as the artistic center of Greece.

Some of the Greek scholars called it the silver age during this period. The main reason behind this is because they found silver deposits in Larium. Untill then, Larium was considered a waste land with no value for farming and or anything else.
